ANAHEIM, Calif. — November 3, 2026. California Assemblymember Avelino Valencia, a Democrat from Anaheim, is on the general-election ballot for Senate District 34. His Republican opponent is Rhonda Shader, a former Placentia mayor and local business owner. Incumbent Tom Umberg is termed out.
Orange County representation
Valencia currently serves in the Assembly and is seeking a different legislative office. His campaign describes priorities in household costs, education, public safety, health services and improving access to economic opportunity. Voters can read his detailed positions on his official website; claims about legislative success are the campaign’s unless separately documented.
Which communities vote in District 34?
The district is centered in northern Orange County and extends into parts of Los Angeles County. It covers much of Santa Ana and portions of Anaheim and Fullerton. That means the result is determined by voters across several cities, not by Anaheim voters alone. Shader’s campaign places greater emphasis on taxation, small businesses and changes in government spending.
Election Day voting and online video
Valencia’s campaign site is avelinovalencia.com. California58 has not verified a November 3 video of him actually marking or submitting a ballot, nor his personal polling place or the time of voting. Social posts will be described as campaign posts unless they document a different event.
